Digital Violence Against Women in Mauritania

This study explores digital violence against women (DVAW) in Mauritania, examining its prevalence, common forms, impact, and potential solutions. Using a mixed-method approach, it incorporates a desktop search, surveys and interviews with educated Mauritanian women over the age of 18.

The researchers highlight the nature of DVAW in Mauritania as an extension of discrimination and violence against women offline. Their findings emphasize the need for serious steps from policymakers to establish protection laws against violence for women and girls, both offline and online; for strengthened public awareness about digital violence and the legal rights of women; and for improved and easily accessible support mechanisms.
