Not Your Body, Not Your Business: Non-Consensual Pornography

Non-consensual pornography (NCP) is a growing crisis in Myanmar, with hundreds of women and girls targeted on platforms like Facebook and Telegram. This study shows how digital abuse—amplified by the military coup, weak legal protections, and platform inaction—has become a widespread form of gender-based violence.

Victims face a culture of silence and blame, often pressured to negotiate privately with abusers rather than report. Legal tools are misused or inaccessible, and civil society remains underprepared to address the issue. The research calls for a shift: NCP must be recognized not just as a privacy violation, but as a human rights abuse.

The report urges stronger legal protections, clearer reporting pathways, survivor support systems, and greater accountability from digital platforms. In a post-coup Myanmar where the rule of law has collapsed, confronting tech-facilitated gender violence is urgent—and long overdue.
