Access to Digital Education: The Final Hope for Young People in Myanmar

In Myanmar, the pandemic and 2021 coup have deeply disrupted education—pushing many young people toward digital learning as their only remaining option. But for youth, especially those involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement, access is sharply limited by cost, poor infrastructure, and security concerns.

This study draws on surveys and interviews with students and activists to reveal barriers ranging from unreliable electricity and weak internet to low-quality devices and safety risks. While conflict-zone voices are underrepresented, the research highlights widespread digital exclusion and its impact on Myanmar’s future.

The report urges targeted action to close access gaps—through funding, infrastructure, and partnerships that prioritize equity in digital education.
