Field Notes: Colombia’s Disarmed Paramilitaries

This research, based on original field work, considers Colombia’s challenges with striving to reintegrate 30,000 demobilized paramilitary fighters into local communities. It explores whether and how Colombia’s rich array of alternative justice operators could provide a solution in support of sustainable Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR). The author is a SecDev Associate with 25 years experience in issues related to human rights, alternative justice and reintegration of former combatants. Research funding was provided by the International Development Research Centre (Canada) and the Department for International Development (DfiD), UK.
